The Toyota Desert Race (TDR) is the oldest event in the history of Botswana motorsport. The race has grown over the years into the biggest sought after sport tourism event in the country. It commands a large following with multitudes of spectators from both within and outside the country converging at Selebi Phikwe, a former copper/ nickel mining town in the Eastern Part of Botswana in June annually to experience the ultimate thrill of the most challenging off-road sporting activity in Southern Africa. The Race has made its way into the global sport and adventure competitive arena as part of the pre-qualification criteria to participate at Dakar Rally, the world renowned toughest off-road endurance event.
